Treatment for Plantar Warts

Symptoms of Plantar Warts

Plantar Warts are viruses that enter the skin through tiny cuts and scrapes – You may not present any symptoms for weeks or months after being exposed to the virus. Plantar warts are spread by direct contact and can multiply and penetrate deeply in the bottom of the foot. They are harmless and sometimes go away on their own, but if normal standing and walking forces them into the skin and cause pain or if they become red, tender, or infected, you should make an appointment to get them treated. Warts may also cause painful calluses, or they may grow into a cluster known as “mosaic warts.” Warts are actually more typical in children than in adults, as many people become immune to this virus as they age. They are also common in those who have autoimmune diseases or who are taking immunosuppressive medications. Kesler Podiatry offers plantar warts treatment to patients in in Hawthorne as well as Wayne, Pompton Lakes, Franklin Lakes, Oakland, NJ, Wyckoff, Fair Lawn, Midland Park, North Haledon, West Caldwell, and Paterson.

Treating Plantar Warts

Simple options like topical chemical agents and debridement (scraping) may be effective in the early stages. Some people have experienced success after simply softening the warts under duct tape, and there are also a variety of over-the-counter treatment options that sometimes work. At our Hawthorne office, we offer many treatment options for plantar warts including topical salicylic acid, burning, freezing with liquid nitrogen, laser therapy, and surgical removal. If the wart grows and multiplies, it sometimes becomes necessary to excise them and cauterize the base to prevent reoccurrence. For the best long-term treatment of plantar warts in Hawthorne, Wayne, Pompton Lakes, Franklin Lakes, Oakland, NJ, Wyckoff, Fair Lawn, Midland Park, North Haledon, West Caldwell, or Paterson, call Kesler Podiatry today at (973) 835-8350.
